এডভোকেট মোহাম্মদ তাজুল ইসলাম, জন্ম ১৯৭৩ সালের ২৫ শে মার্চ। ১৯৮৫ সালে তিনি জামালপুর জিলা স্কুলে ভর্তি হন এবং সেখান থেকে এস এস সি এবং পরবর্তীতে জামালপুরের সরকারি আশেক মাহমুদ কলেজ থেকে এইচ এস সি পাশ করেন । তিনি রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়  থেকে ১৯৯৫ সালে এল.এল.বি( অনার্স) এবং ১৯৯৬ সালে এল.এল.এম ডিগ্রী লাভ করেন।

 

তিনি আইনজীবী হিসাবে ১৯৯৮ সালে বাংলাদেশ বার কাউন্সিলের অধীনে নিবন্ধিত হয়ে পেশা জীবন শুরু করেন এবং ১৯৯৯ সালের ৩০ শে জানুয়ারী বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রিম কোর্টের  আইনজীবী হিসেবে তালিকাভূক্ত হন। তিনি লিড ডিফেন্স কাউন্সিল হিসেবে  বাংলাদেশের  আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনালে ২০১০ থেকে ২০১৪ সাল পর্যন্ত দায়িত্ব পালন করেন এবং সেসময়ে দেশের সবচেয়ে আলোচিত ও স্পর্শকাতর মামলাসমূহ পরিচালনা করেন। এছাড়া যুদ্ধাপরাধ ও মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধ সংক্রান্ত বিশ্ব বিখ্যাত ল’ ফার্ম যুক্তরাজ্যের লন্ডনে অবস্থিত “চেম্বার অফ Anthony Berry QC” এবং Steven K-QC সাথে কাজ করেন। তিনি বিশ্বের ২৩ টি দেশ ভ্রমন করে অসংখ্য আন্তার্জাতিক সেমিনার, সিম্পোজিয়াম ছাড়াও  অনেক রাজনৈতিক ও কুটনৈতিক বৈঠকে অংশগ্রহণ করেন। তিনি ইসরাইলের  মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধের দায়ে ইসরাইলী সেনা কর্মকর্তাদের বিরুদ্ধে তুর্কি আদালতে দায়েরকৃত Mavi Marmara “ মামলার শুনানীতে একাধিকবার অংশগ্রহণ করেন। বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আইনজীবী হিসেবে জনাব মোহাম্মদ তাজুল ইসলাম দুই যুগেরও বেশি সময় ধরে অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সাংবিধানিক ও ফৌ্জদারি মামলা পরিচালনা করেন।

 

জনাব মোহাম্মদ তাজুল ইসলাম ৫ ই সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৪ তারিখে  এ্যাটর্নী জেনারেল পদমর্যাদায় আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনালের “চীফ প্রসিকিউটর” হিসেবে নিয়োগপ্রাপ্ত হন।

Advocate Mohammad Tajul Islam was born on March 25, 1973, and his journey reflects a deep commitment to justice and service. He commenced his education at Maulveerchar Primary School, where he completed his primary studies in 1982. He subsequently pursued his secondary education at Sanandbari High School from 1983 to 1984, where he completed the seventh grade. He made a significant stride in 1985 by enrolling in Jamalpur Zilla School, where he effectively completed his SSC. Subsequently, he pursued his HSC at Government Ashek Mahmud College in Jamalpur. He established a solid foundation for future endeavors by earning his LLB (Hons) in 1995 and an LLM in 1996 from Rajshahi University.

 

Advocate Tajul Islam began his professional career as an advocate with the Bangladesh Bar Council in 1998. He subsequently became an advocate with the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on January 30, 1999. His position as Lead Defence Counsel in Bangladesh's International Criminal Tribunal from 2010 to 2014 placed him at the center of critical, frequently contentious legal issues that impacted the nation's history. Additionally, he was afforded the opportunity to work with esteemed law firms in London, including the "Chamber of Anthony Berry QC" and the "Chamber of Steven K-QC," where he concentrated on significant matters such as war crimes and crimes against humanity. His perspective on global justice has been enhanced by his extensive travels to 23 countries and his participation in various international seminars, symposiums, and diplomatic events.

Mr. Tajul Islam has exhibited extraordinary courage and commitment by frequently attending the hearings of the Mavi Marmara case in Turkish courts and advocating for accountability for crimes against humanity. On September 5, 2024, he was designated Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, thereby assuming the prestigious position of Attorney General.

Advocate Mohammad Tajul Islam epitomizes the aspirations and expectations of the Bangladeshi populace as a lawyer, politician, and social worker. Many individuals believe that he is the key to achieving their aspirations of justice, particularly in pursuing the most severe penalties for those responsible for the tragic events of July and August and ensuring fair trials.
